This relatively large garden had little to offer the new owners. They has already removed a large number of very tall hedge plants to open the garden up, but were stuck with an unusual shaped patio and some large empty beds.
A summer house had already been installed, but it was important to add to this with a seating area to entertain friends with space for a barbeque and pergola.
Feeling a little exposed to the rear we planted some ornamental pears that will in time create a feeling of privacy. We also added trellis to the top of the boundary walls and fences with climbers to give colour and screening.
Generous borders were filled with bold colours and strong shapes, I used trees, shrubs, perennials and grasses.
I designed a new retaining wall with broad steps up to a generous lawn allowing lots of room to play, separated from the main patio by a retaining wall and a colourful border. The wall also provided additional seating for entertaining or easier gardening.
